From the trips to Rosario Beach, Friday Harbor, San Juan Island and Whidbey Island to the day trips up Chuckanut Drive and to Fort Casey, there are so many fond memories it will be hard to decide just where to start. This is a website detailing some of our favorite memories from our time living in Anacortes Washington. We will look into some of the hotels and exquisite bed and breakfast lodging in the area along with some of the various restaurants and dining establishments that offer something out of the ordinary to their guests. Visit Cap Sante park and the Anacortes marina during your visit to this exceptional area of Washington.

Exploring Historic Downtown Anacortes

Historic Downtown Anacortes boasts an abundance of unique specialty shops, antique stores and fine art galleries. The historic mural project takes visitors along streets lined with elegant restaurants boasting cuisine from the Northwest and six other nations. For those wishing to stay more then the day there are many excellent bed and breakfasts, historic inns, Full service hotels, affordable motels and even waterfront RV parks that offer an array of accommodation options that is sure to fit in any vacation plans. Orca whale watching tours in the San Juan Islands and north Puget Sound are available from downtown Anacortes WA.

Exploring Washington Park and Mount Erie

Washington Park, a 220-acre gem facing Rosario Strait, is this community's largest and most popular park. It features a full-service campground, boat launch, picnic shelter, and loop road for walking, biking or driving. There is also a playground and beach area for kids and adults. Deception Pass Bridge and the state's busiest park are just minutes away, offering spectacular views and unique stretches of beach.

Mount Erie Park, rising 1,300 feet above Anacortes, provides spectacular views of the Skagit Valley and neighboring islands. Surrounded by more than two square miles of public forestland, Mount Erie Park can be explored in boots, on a bike, or by driving in a car.
Fishing at Erie Lake, From Anacortes, go south on "H" Ave (becomes Dowell-Heart Lk Rd) about 4 miles. Turn right on Rosario Road and go about ¼ mile to the public access site on right side of road. There is a gravel parking area and small boat launch available on the lake.

San Juan SailingAnacortes, Washington is referred to as the gateway to the San Juan Islands. Passengers destined for the islands often embark on their journeys from one of the three marinas on Fidalgo Island or from the Washington State Ferry docks.

For antique shopping, birding, sailing, yachting, island hopping, fishing, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, or simply enjoying the breathtaking landscape or the island beaches, Anacortes and the San Juan Islands will be sure to please you.

Friday Harbor located in the San Juan Islands is a bustling island community that you will not want to miss. Here we will look into the lodging, real estate, fishing, beach combing, whale watching, Whale Museum, and sea kayak trips. Tours available as well as access to this San Juan Island town.

 

Spend a day in Skaget County

Clean and relaxing is how we remember the town of Coupeville Washington and the many times we visited during our stay.

Drop into the port town of La Conner located on the shores of the Swinomish channel. La Conner is 70 miles north of Seattle and only 25 minutes from the San Juan Island Ferries located in Anacortes.

Any time is a good time for a romantic drive along the scenic Chuckanut Drive that follows the coastline from Bow up to Bellingham. Along this trip you pass Larrabee State Park on Samish Bay

Exploring Historic Fort Casey on Whidbey Island

Fort Casey State Park is a 467-acre marine camping park with a lighthouse and sweeping views of Admiralty Inlet and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. A coast artillery post features two historic guns on display. Fort Casey is located three miles south of Coupeville, Wash., on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound.

Flying kites with our kids in the field infront of the old fort has been one of our fond memories from our time in Washington. We always enjoyed having picnics in the campground below the fort and watching the ferry boats come and go from the ferry dock by the boat launch.

Enjoy a San Juan Whale Watching Trip

Orca whale watching trips in the waters of Puget Sound. The San Juan Islands are world renowned for both the resident pods of Orca Whales along with migratory pods of whales that pass through these waters on their trek to and from the salmon rich feeding grounds in British Columbia and Alaska.

Canoe and Deception Pass Bridge connect the island of Fidalgo with the scenic Whidbey Island in Puget Sound north of Everett WA. These scenic bridges are the northern entrance to Deception Pass State Park, a wonderfully beautiful and very popular recreation area situated in western Washington’s Island retreats.

Along highway 20 between Coupeville and Deception Pass State Park lies the busy island town of Oak Harbor Washington.
